5 Simple Tips for Creating a Relaxing Home Environment

There’s nothing like coming home to a calm and relaxing environment. But for busy moms, creating that type of environment can feel like a daunting task. Luckily, there are some simple things you can do to promote a sense of peace in your home. Here are my five simple tips for creating a relaxing home environment:
1. Incorporate calming colors into your décor scheme
One of the best ways to create a relaxing home environment is to incorporate calming colors into your décor scheme. Soft, muted colors have a tranquilizing effect that can help to reduce stress levels and promote feelings of peace and tranquility. Blue and green are particularly effective in creating a calming atmosphere, but any color that makes you feel relaxed will work well.
When choosing paint colors or fabrics, keep in mind that what looks relaxing to one person may not have the same effect on another. What matters most is that you choose colors that make you feel calm and comfortable. By surrounding yourself with relaxing hues, you can help to create a haven for you and your family to enjoy.
2. Start each day with a few minutes of quiet time for yourself
As a mom, you probably know that your mood impacts the entire family. This is why it is so important to start the day off right.
It can be tough to find time for yourself when you have a busy family and a full schedule, but it’s important to take a few minutes every day to relax and recharge. One way to do this is to start each day with a few minutes of quiet time. You can use this time to pray, read, make a to-do list for the day, or just sit in silence.
Taking a few minutes to center yourself each day will help you feel more relaxed and focused, and it will set the tone for the rest of the day.
3. Make use of soothing scents throughout the house
One important tip for creating a relaxing home environment is to make use of soothing scents throughout the house. The effects smells can have on our moods are truly insane! A diffuser with essential oils can help to fill the air with a calming fragrance, and candles or incense can also be used to achieve this effect.
It is important to choose scents that are relaxing and not too overwhelming, as strong smells can actually be quite stimulating. This is especially important if you have children, as you want to create an environment that is conducive to rest and relaxation.
My favorite oil to diffuse is Thieves! The smell of Thieves always reminds me of fall and makes my home feel warm and cozy. As a bonus, I’ve read that Thieves can boost the immune system which is good for the whole family!
By making use of soothing scents, you can help to create a relaxing home environment that everyone can enjoy.
4. Put away electronics when it’s time to unwind
One of the best ways to wind down at the end of a long day is to disconnect from electronics and enjoy some peace and quiet. Whether it’s setting aside an hour before bed to read or spending some time chatting with your husband and kiddos without looking at your phone, taking a break from screens can help you relax and recharge.
If you find it difficult to completely disconnect, try setting some boundaries, such as only using your phone in certain rooms or turning off notifications after a certain time. By putting away electronics and enjoying some screen-free time, you can create a relaxing environment that will help you unwind after a long day.
5. Keep clutter to a minimum in order to reduce stress levels
One of the best ways to create a relaxing home environment is to keep clutter to a minimum. When our homes are cluttered, it can be difficult to find things and we can often feel overwhelmed by the mess. This can lead to increased stress levels and anxiety. By decluttering your home, you can help reduce your stress levels and create a more relaxing environment.
There are a few simple ways to declutter your home. First, get rid of any unnecessary items that you don’t use or need. Secondly, organize your belongings so that they are easy to find and put away. Lastly, make sure to regularly clean and tidy up your living space.

Creating a relaxing home environment for your family to enjoy doesn’t have to be difficult! And remember, as the mama of the house, you often set the tone for everyone else. So breathe deep and good luck!
